Lilee’s Gourmet Bakery
When you think of zucchini bread what comes to mind first? For me, it is a healthy and not as flavorful bread. When I was introduced to a black-owned brand called Lilee’s Gourmet Bakery they totally changed my perception of zucchini bread. The owner, Mrs. Samantha, introduced me to her delicious and healthy product and I felt compelled to share with you all.
The recipe for Mrs. Samantha’s zucchini bread has been in her family for generations, and about 5-6 years ago she felt lead to share it with the world. She first started with local farmers markets in Memphis, and with much success, she moved into major regional and national grocery stores such as Krogers and Whole Foods. Mrs. Samantha mentioned getting her products into Whole Foods was about a year-long process, but her gluten-free option made her a shoo-in as a new vendor for this popular grocery store chain.
The motto for Lilee’s is “Linking health eating directly to the farm is our priority,” and these are not just words on the packaging of her products, but something she stands behind as well. Mrs. Samantha’s brother is a third generation farmer in which the majority of their zucchini is sourced from. The great thing about zucchini it is naturally a low-calorie food and contains dietary fiber. Lilee’s products use only one type of sugar which is cane sugar versus other products typically use 3-4 different sugars for preservative purposes. Her zucchini bread comes in a muffin size that is available locally in Memphis, parts of Mississippi, and online via Amazon. Currently, they have three flavors available:
Chocolate (Gluten-free option available)
Cinnamon Spice (Gluten-free option available)
These dairy-free products are freezer safe, and you can pop them in the microwave for less than 10 minutes for a nice healthy and tasty treat. Mrs. Samantha told me that a lot of customers love putting peanut butter on top of their cinnamon spice muffin.
What is next for Lilee’s Gourmet Bakery? With clearance to move into more Krogers stores, you will be able to get their products in more locations SOON. Mrs. Samantha would also like to introduce the loaf size into more places along with seasonal flavors.
I once read somewhere
Currently, a dollar circulates in Asian communities for a month, in Jewish communities approximately 20 days and white communities 17 days. How long does a dollar circulate in the black community? 6 hours! African American buying power is at 1.1 Trillion; and yet only 2 cents of every dollar an African American spends in this country goes to black owned businesses.
Seeing these type of startling statistics regarding black-owned business is why it is crucial to support these type of companies hence the reason I feel it is imperative to highlight black-owned companies.
This product was gifted to me, but the opinions are my own.
