Tiki Tings at Mother of Pearl
In the middle of East Village amongst a sea of bars and restaurants nestled next to each other is a spot that serves vegan food and tiki-inspired drinks. Mother of Pearl has floral decor, a pink and green scheme, and the perfect amount flamingos placed throughout the restaurant. Their specialty cocktail menu is created by Jane Danger, who is a legend in NYC cocktail scene and has been mentioned by Thrillist as one of the most talented female bartenders.
If you like rum, daiquiris, well-crafted drinks, and vegan food THEN LOOK NO FURTHER. Their most popular drink is the Shark Eye which includes passion fruit, lemon, maraschino, dry curacao, bourbon, and tiki bitters. Shark Eye actually comes in a shark head mug and they utilize the tiki bitters to complete the effect of blood (soooo maybe don't wear all white?). The other drink featured below was the Matahari Julep which included aged Guyanese rum, Rhum Agricole (the fancy French term for cane juice rum INSTEAD of using molasses), Jamaican rum, mint, and Laura's mix.
This is a no standing bar so if you come with a large crew I would recommend a grabbing a table to enjoy your libations. They open at 5 pm during the weekdays and 3 pm on the weekends. This is also perfect spot to grab drinks before dinner if you aren't into the whole vegan thing.
