Top 5: Beer in Harlem

HARLEM HOPS NYC.jpg

My husband is a beer connoisseur so naturally, I found myself enjoying it as well.  When we first moved to Harlem there was no bar dedicated to the consumption of beer.  The majority of the bars in Harlem carried all the same "safe" beers at that time.  Fast forward 5 years later to present day and now Harlem has real options when it comes to beer.  Check out the list below for five places to grab a nice cold beer in Harlem.

Harlem Hops - Harlem Hops is disrupting the beer scene by not only serving up a unique rotating craft beer selection but also by being the first Black-owned beer bar in Harlem.   With so many choices and a very knowledgeable staff, this is the perfect place for beginning beer drinkers and those who consider themselves a brew connoisseur.  While their focus is on beer their bites menu includes items that compliment your beverage such as Bavarian pretzel, sausages served on pretzel buns, and Guma pies.  Check out the full blog on Harlem Hops here.

Hop House Harlem - Located on Restaurant Row in Harlem this bar/restaurant has a great happy hour Monday to Friday from 3 pm - 7pm and includes select beers starting at $5.  Their beer selection includes a lot of local craft beers and ciders such as Greenport Harbor Brewery, Five Boroughs Brewing, and Doc's Draft Hard Cider.

Bierstrasse NYC -  This beer garden has plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy your cold brew and they serve one of my favorite beers Schofferhofer Grapefruit which is a Hefeweizen and Grapefruit beer blend.  This garden is located on 12th avenue but worth the hike or cab westward.

2346 12th Ave, New York, NY 10027

East Harlem Bottling Co. - East Harlem has a place for beer lovers to call home with a plenty of choices and their famous hot wings to compliment their long beer list along with an outdoor patio.  Some of their current rotation includes Downeast Cider, Newburgh Mega Boss IPA, and Shiner Strawberry Blonde.

1711 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10029

The Draft House - Located in West Harlem along Broadway this bar has prime people watching with their large patio and plenty of TVs to catch any football game.  Draft House advertise over 20 different beers and even 5 wines on tap for those in your party who aren't crazy about beer.

3473 Broadway, New York, NY 10031
