Mediterranean Fare: Local 92
I recently checked out Local 92 which happens to be a cozy Mediterranean restaurant with a great happy hour, mouthwatering food, and also home to Blue Quarter which is a speakeasy located inside of this restaurant located on 2nd avenue in East Village.
Their menu is excellent because it has plenty of different options if you are in a group or a smaller setting and plenty of vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes as well. Local 92's signature hummus which is made to order is a very popular item that can be seen on almost every table while dining there and you can order proteins such as chicken or beef to please the carnivore within yourself. While I was visiting this establishment I got to sample many things off their menu ( this is hard work people and I do it for you) and hands down my favorite item was the Kebab Stuffed Pita (Arayes) which is a blend of Pat LeFrieda beef and lamb stuffed inside of a grilled pita. The meat was perfectly cooked, moist, and an adequate amount of seasoning without being overpowering. Some crowd favorites on the menu include:
Shakshuka which is poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce and served in a cast iron pan along with bread for dipping
Mixed Squash Ravioli stuffed with butternut squash, pumpkin and acorn squash, thyme butter sauce, sweet corn, and beets
Handmade Beef Meatballs with red pepper & tomato fondue, green peas & labneh cheese
If you are looking for a brunch situation, Local 92 does offer 1 hour bottomless for $14 and brunch plates for $12. Bottomless brunch for less than $50 is typically unheard of in New York City so I would strike by while the iron is hot on this deal.
Local 92 has happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 12 pm -7 pm which is perfect for those summer Fridays that are around the corner. The perfect marriage of food and libations can be found on Taco Tuesdays where they have $3 tacos which will be a recipe for pure food coma bliss. The bar area is usually pretty busy due to all the great deals and experienced mixologist behind the bar (Shoutout to Gilos) but have no fear because beyond the blue door in the back of Local 92 lies an entirely different experience with a speakeasy that goes by the name Blue Quarter. Still drawing from the Mediterranean influences, this bar incorporates teas into their cocktails program and is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Be sure to check out this neighborhood favorite and let them know Dom N’ The City sent you.
My meal was comped at this establishment, but this review showcases my own opinions.
