de Mole: Authentic Mexican Food in Williamsburg
Looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food in New York City? Well, I highly recommend heading to de Mole in Williamsburg. I can hear you already saying, "Dom that L train is beast." And while this is a true statement, sometimes the best things in life are on the least commuter friendly train lines. de Mole is a family owned restaurant, and although they are celebrating their first year in Brooklyn, they have been in business for over ten plus years in Queens with their other locations.
While visiting this restaurant, I learned that the food served is inspired by Pueblo, Mexico, which is home to the family. Along with rich history, Pueblo is also known for its signature sauce called mole. The mole sauce at de Mole takes three days to make and uses 26 spices. Just being honest I am not sure if I have 26 spices in my house, so I was impressed! Mole is a dark red or brown sauce that typically includes chili powder along with other spices and served alongside a protein. During my time at the restaurant, I allowed the chef to pick out each one of our dishes, and SHE brought some serious culinary magic to our table such as Cocktail de Camarones (shrimp cocktail), Crispy Octopus, and Pollo con Mole Poblano (Slow Cooked Chicken Leg with mole). Their menu does include several vegan and vegetarian options, so no one in the group will feel left out. The food was just as unforgettable as the colored plates these courses are served on in which I later on learned they were created by a talented Mexican artist named Javier Servin.
de Mole's bar is just as impressive as their food menu, and what was unique was that they offer tequila on draft! Chilled tequila is great for cocktails because they do not need to be shaken as much since the spirit is already at a lower temperature, and you are less likely to have watered down cocktail. #Winning
