Brooklyn Chop House

Brooklyn+Chop+House.jpg

Brooklyn Chop House is the latest restaurant to blend Chinese fare with a steakhouse concept. Imagine being able to order dim sum and a Porterhouse steak from the same menu. Here is the plot twist - Brooklyn Chop House isn't located in Brooklyn, but in Manhattan next to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. With that type of proximity, we will give them a pass on the name. The man behind this Financial District restaurant is Robert Cummins, and he is no newcomer to business or hospitality. Robert is known as "DonPooh" in the music industry and a Brooklyn native that discovered Foxy Brown and co-executive produced Auntie Mary's "No More Drama" project. His partner, Stratis Morfogen, handles the operations aspect of the business and has experience as one of the founders for the famous Phillippe Chow and an owner of Jue Lan Club as well.

Brooklyn Chop House's dining room seats 150 people and 35 at the bar. Imagine ceiling to floor velvet curtains, white table cloths, and the best of hip-hop playing in the background. This restaurant offers brunch, lunch, and dinner, so anytime is a good time to drop into Brooklyn Chop House. The day I dined at the restaurant was completely unplanned, but once we decided we were heading there, I booked a reservation via Opentable. On this particular Saturday, it was rather quiet around 1 pm, which perfect for the socially tapped out Dominek. Our server, Steven, was patient as I attempted to pick from over ten types of dumplings on their menu. Since we were only there for a quick lunch, we kept the meal light and ordered glazed spare ribs, french onion soup dumplings, lobster "spring roll" dumplings, and lobster fried rice. The French onion soup dumplings tasted like JUST like I was eating from a bowl of French Onion Soup, and I could easily understand how these are one of the top dumpling picks. The ribs were pretty good as well, even though I am not a sweet and savory type of person, but the glaze complimented the meat well. My husband is a lobster eater, so that is why we went for the lobster fried rice, which is meant to be shared between two people.

Brooklyn Chop House doesn't offer a happy hour, but instead, happy days, which means seven days a week at the bar, are $10 top shelf drinks! I can get with that, and those are some of the best prices in the FiDi area. If you are looking to catch them for brunch, they offer a $40 unlimited dim sum, and there are no unlimited drink packages for brunch, but their brunch cocktails are priced at $14.

I can easily see myself coming back for a dinner to celebrate a special occasion or a girl night out where we get glammed up.
