5 Things I Learned While Juicing

Juicing is a “health craze” that shows no sign of slowing down. My good friends at Bella Housewares sent over their Juice Extractor, and I decided to find out what the hype was all about. I juiced for five days in the morning as a compliment my breakfast, not as a replacement. After countless hours of googling and living on every Pinterest board known to man, I have decided to share five things I learned during these five days while juicing.

Before we dive into the world of juicing, I want to state I am not a medical professional, and you should consult your physician or a nutritionist for a professional opinion.


Juicing is not a meal supplement

When you juice, you are missing out on the fiber that is present in the form of whole fruits and veggies. The purpose of a juicer is to extract juice which means the machine leaves the pulp behind, where the fiber is found. The first day that I juiced, I did it early in the morning before eating breakfast but found myself hungry an hour later. You are probably asking yourself, "What is the point of juicing if you are losing out on fiber, and you are hungry shortly after?" That is a great question! Juicing is an excellent addition to your diet because it allows you to quickly take in a large amount of fruit and veggies, which is an excellent alternative to these juice drinks like Naked beverages that are typically loaded with added sugar.

THERE IS A SCIENCE TO THIS THING WHEN IT COMES TO INGREDIENTS

I have learned this goes beyond just juicing a couple of apples and other fruits. I have included a nice graphic below so you can figure out how to create your next drink creation. Some of my personal favorites include:

  • Pear, orange, lemon, lime, grape, and cantaloupe

  • Orange, pineapple, green apple, and watermelon

  • Orange, carrot, celery, and lemon

  • Grapefruit, lemon, celery, ginger, and cilantro

BUYING ORGANIC FRUIT IS A BETTER OPTION

Selecting organic fruit is helpful to avoid pesticides, and this is especially important because you are juicing the skin on the fruit or vegetable.


OUTSIDE OF JUICE, THERE ARE COUPLE OF ITEMS YOU WILL NEED

  • Glass bottle for storage and I picked mine up at Target (click for the link)

  • Funnel

  • Vegetable brush


THERE ARE SOME FRUIT YOU WILL NEED TO PEEL THE SKIN OFF

  • Oranges

  • Grapefruit

  • Cantaloupe

  • Mangoes

The juicer I was gifted came from Bella Housewares, and it is currently sold out on Amazon, but I have linked a similar one from Bella.
